The Little Things, an international online solo painting exhibition by Andrew Cohen opens on October 15, and will continue for one month until November 15, 2023.

Andrew Cohen thinks of the world as a complex place; full of colors, layers, textures, materials, beliefs, emotions, chaos and control. He uses each of these attributes in his work as a way of dealing with them. He uses a multitude of mediums and surfaces so the concepts he is developing can stand out from one another. He aims for his art to be as diverse as the world we live in.

As Andrew stated, this series came to fruition out of initial frustration over the lack of knowing what he was doing with his art. He wrote: "I literally threw gesso over all of these canvases simultaneously as a means of letting go of my frustration. I subsequently studied them for weeks before I realized I was far too concerned with the whole group and needed to just stop, simplify the chaos and think about one. With that I studied the smallest canvas and focused only on the little things. The texture and its arrangement on the canvas. It’s smooth, rough, detaching in places, wild, tame, out of control, flowing beautifully, even hectic at times. Much like the world we have adapted to living in. I felt a need to control it somehow. So I built houses. As many as I could so it would feel like a blend of control and chaos. The houses are like little sanctuaries among their tumultuous surroundings. While the vast number of dwellings at times feels like overwhelming urban sprawl. What then exactly is the chaos? And what is the control?"

Artist ( Description ):

Born and raised in Lexington Kentucky. I found love in art at a young age. Slowly building myself up through the years with various levels of art education, to find my own methods and techniques to apply mediums to various surfaces. I will continue to develop my skills as long as the joy remains. I'm excited to see what my future in art will unfold.
