Automatic Writing, an international online solo painting exhibition by Nicolas Gadbois opens on June 01, and will continue for two months until August 01, 2024.

Nick Gadbois' solo exhibition, "Automatic Writing" showcases his innovative approach to abstract painting. Moving beyond traditional notions that link abstraction solely to the imagination, Gadbois grounds his work in the tangible world. His medium, CNC router MDF boards, are remnants from commercial projects, rich with pre-existing abstract visual language. These 'spoil boards' feature an intricate matrix of lines and shapes, the product of both systematic order and random chance. Gadbois adopts these boards unaltered, allowing the inherent patterns to dictate the final artwork. This process echoes the 'all over' technique of Jackson Pollock and the Surrealists' automatic writing. Through re-purposing these industrial castaways, Gadbois bridges the gap between the intentional and the accidental, creating a compelling dialogue between structure and spontaneity in contemporary abstraction.
