SEA Foundation presents the solo exhibition of Joran van Soest, Dutch visual artist working across mediums like painting, ceramics, installation and video. The exhibition explores the world-changing potential of personal stories. More specifically, it forms a familiar environment within SEA Foundation to invite the audience to navigate, reminisce and to connect and in addition position themselves and recollect their own experiences.
In an open and emotionally layered manner, visual artist Joran van Soest maps territories of human interactions through story-telling. During his exhibition at SEA Foundation, Joran van Soest creates a context in which he questions people’s perception of the world around them and the function of memories. The exhibition space expands to actively encourage dialogues around moving images and installations. The selection of core materials from the artist’s archive are shown for the first time.
SEA Foundation
Artist-led SEA Foundation is a non-profit art initiative. Over time, SEA Foundation has become a synonym for exhibitions, art practice support, exchanges, and publications. Since 2013, we also run an International Artist in Residence program that offers a unique environment, by providing time and space for research, experimentation, and professional advancement. SEA Foundation is an independent, artist-led, residency-based venue for contemporary art. To fulfil our mission; to create awareness for contemporary art and to build cultural resilience, we act as a catalyst in the working lives of artists. In all our activities we are fuelled by visual arts. Through exchanges and working in different cultural contexts SEA Foundation is part of international networks, where we generate and take part in discussions on eminent issues.
About Joran van Soest
Joran van Soest is a Dutch visual artist who graduated in 2018 from the Art Academy AKV St. Joost in Hertogenbosch. His relationship to his surroundings has been the focal point of his research. From innocent origins to a complex adulthood, physical companionship to thoughtful contemplation and submissive power versus overriding dominance. Joran moves between these extremes and defines his own definition of Intersubjective Space. He exhibited his work mainly in the Netherlands in places such as Het NoordBrabants Museum, Art Amsterdam and Go Mulan, Amsterdam.
The exhibition is part of WARP, a series of exhibitions which were activated for SEA foundation’s vitrine in 2020. These exhibitions now follow the SEA Foundation’s folds on art and sustainability, in which we currently research fold #08 on Spirit. The aim of the WARP series is to stimulate artistic research and present the adaptations of the works made by regional artists or artists with regional connections.
