In the exhibition, The Absurd and the Grace, Brazilian artist Flávia Junqueira draws upon the visual memories of childhood as a launching point for her large-format photographs that pay homage to monumental architecture, historical sites, and the ephemeral nature of childhood. Dreamlike and playful, Junqueira’s photos capture a realm of magical realism where the tangible and the imaginary, the present and the past, the adult and the child converge.  Grand theaters filled with balloons, a lone and riderless carousel horse resides inside an ornate library, balloons and soap bubbles hover and float above Rio de Janeiro’s Parque Lage. Flávia Junquiera's imagination knows no boundaries.  Her poetic images fuse two divergent worlds normally held separate by space and time, yet here magically connected through an enchanted vision.
