THE LIGHT IS WORTH THE WAIT
Artist statement by Sandy Kupfer
My earliest memory is from 3 years old. Willie and I were rockstars performing for a crowd larger than Spongebob's arena show. I race to the light switch and as quick as darkness settled; Willie crashed to the ground. He malfunctioned like a robot with a super surge of electricity over powering him. The ambulance arrived se4conds after my mom called it. This is why I'm afraid of the dark. The Darkness is an abyss of fear, suffering isolatory emptiness. But I promise you THE LIGHT IS WORTH THE WAIT.
This series consists of multiple layers of paint built up in a pentimento style. The application of mark making is versatile. It can provide as scoring; creating a private language. Texture is utilized to provide emphasis. Correlated with this, simple and crude faces provide the viewer with a focal point to read these works. Gestural strokes of mixed color coexist next to spaces of flat, single tone paint.
