In "Conditions, Matter, Effect: ATMOSPHERES II" the artists explore the effects and conditions of atmospheres and how they influence and permeate consciousness, through drawings and installation.
Addressing the ‘conditions’, ‘matters’ and ‘effects’ of atmospheres the artists Felicity Clear, Kiera O’Toole and Mary-Ruth Walsh variously employ the drawn or diagrammatic line to trace the force and movement of materials in the formation of atmospheric environments, landscape and spaces.
Taking us on a journey through matter, movement, weather, atmosphere and surface the artists within Atmospheres II present a philosophical and ecological series of works that interweave bodies, minds, landscapes, topologies and design in a correspondence and movement of lines towards the future. Each artist demonstrates differently that atmosphere, is not ‘set over against perceivers but co-mingles with, and saturates their consciousness, wherein it is generative of their own capacity to perceive’… and revision, the potential of drawing.

They present us with a body of work that speaks simultaneously to the philosophical and ecological, while weaving body, mind, landscapes, topologies and design together in a movement of lines, which moves us towards the future.
Each of the artists shows in their own way how atmosphere is not opposed to the perceiver, but mixes with and penetrates their consciousness, producing their own perceptual capacity…
The exhibition is a curatorial collaboration with Drawing deCentered, Ireland and part of Zeitgeist Ireland 24, which celebrates the richness and diversity of contemporary Irish culture in 2024.

Through fieldwork, material and philosophical research, PhD researcher and artist KIERA O'TOOLE creates site-specific drawings, drawing installations and stop-motion animations, which explore the emotional vibrations of places. Her practice deals with the hidden, intimate relationships that connect humans with non-humans and tries to capture or map these relationships through drawing. O’Toole’s work focuses on documenting everyday atmospheres and their specific spatial emotions, rather than her private emotions, highlighting our entanglement with the world.
FELICITY CLEAR explores the intersection of line, light and perception in a wide variety of media and formats. Her work ranges from small 2D works on paper to large 3D installations and hand-drawn animations. Oftentimes her creations feature distorted perspectives and three-dimensional elements that cast shadows, creating intriguing visual puzzles. Recently, her artwork deals with the way space and time are conceptualised in maps and schema that come from meteorological observations of wind, cloud and other natural systems.
MARY-RUTH WALSH’s work critically examines architecture and its materials in the Anthropocene, exploring their impact on our lives and movements. Her public work extends beyond the gallery space and is both permanent and temporary. Her theatrical presentations in drawing, painting, and film contrast with and parallel her architectural inspirations, using seductive surfaces that lead the viewer in.
"My practice explores buildings from frenetic shopping centers to the desolate loneliness of empty spaces and how architecture affects the way we move and behave in the urban environment. I also see architecture as part of our identity. These explorations are realised in drawing, painting, film-making, sculpture-installation, critical writing and occasionally performance."
