Gathered in the Stretching Now prompts an elongated sense of our present “now”, featuring work by Jenn Cacciola, Jennifer Tazewell Mawby, Taya Naumovich, Dana O’Malley, and SK Reed. Here, time becomes a malleable, textured, striated, and translucent material, used to encourage a reorientation of our personal senses of history, future, and the space between. Methods developed by The Long Now Foundation serve as a unifying framework among the artists. The Long Now is “the recognition that the precise moment you're in grows out of the past and is a seed for the future. The longer your sense of Now, the more past and future it includes…” and as an effect, the foundation hopes to “foster responsibility in the framework of the next 10,000 years” (Brian Eno). Gathered in the Stretching Now includes large-scale installation, drawing, assemblage, painting, and mixed-media sculpture.

Curator :

Artist ( Description ):

Jenn Cacciola (she/her) is a NY and CT-based artist and curator. She received a B.S. in Visual Arts from SUNY Purchase School of Art + Design in 2015. She engages in community building among artists as the co-founder and director of Ice Cream Social and board member of Openings Collective. She has been awarded residencies with Clementina Arts Foundation, the Sheen Center, the National Parks Arts Foundation, World of Co, and Cel del Nord. Through installation, fiber, and sculpture, Cacciola peers into the impulses that cause us to seek out relationships to history, and the way these forces inform present-day relationships. Layering and devices of obstruction work to slow viewing and induce cathartic sensations of digging, burying and magnifying.

Jennifer Tazewell Mawby (she/her) works across drawing, painting, sculpture, and time-based media from her studio in Vancouver, Canada. Her character-driven story worlds draw from personal history, ancient civilizations, and science fiction. The ongoing narrative bodies of work originate from social commentary often inventing fantastical, revisionist alternatives that connect the ancient past to the present and caution against the ahistorical. Mawby received a James Haggarty Canopy Program scholarship from NYC Crit Club and has been mentored by artists Paul Becker (UK) and Michael Berryhill (USA). She received a BA Classical Studies from UBC (CA) and then studied at ECUAD (CA), The Royal Drawing School (UK), The New Art School (UK), and Turps Banana (UK). She received her MA Fine Arts, with honours jointly from OCA and UCA (UK) and in 2023 completed the International Curatorial Program with NODE Center, Berlin (DE). Jennifer is the director and a co-founder of Vantage Art Projects and her art work has been exhibited and published in Canada, the U.S., Australia, and the UK.

Taya Naumovich (she/her) is an artist working and living in Philadelphia. Her works invite the viewer to tap into the multiverse of a present moment, with timeless dream-like snapshots of now. Luminous, often ghost-like creatures inhabit the present while bringing a glimpse of a memory once formed and sustained by light, color, and feeling. Taya’s works have been exhibited throughout the United States. She is currently a participant of the Barnes-de Mazia Certificate Program at the Barnes Foundation.

Dana O’Malley (she/her) is an artist living and working in Philadelphia, PA. Her paintings contemplate the vastness within the quotidian. Dana’s work has been shown in hallways and galleries throughout the United States including Annmarie Sculpture Garden (MD), Cedar Rapids Museum of Art (IA), Collar Works (NY), and Trestle Gallery (NY). O’Malley holds an M.F.A in Painting from the University of Iowa (2016), and a B.F.A in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design (2009).

SK Reed (they/them) is an artist and curator based in Kansas City, KS. Reed’s paintings and ceramics feature “creatures” learning from more-than-human species counter-capitalist and anti-hegemonic ways of being in the world. Strange and fluid bodies navigate landscapes informed by Science Fiction and their local environment. They received an MFA from The University of Kansas in 2023, an MA from Eastern Illinois University in 2020, and a BFA and BSE from The University of Central Missouri in 2014. Currently, Reed is a Lecturer in The Foundation Department at The Kansas City Art Institute. Part of many curatorial projects, they run Beco Gallery in Kansas City.
