Colors create a painting just as words create a poem and notes create a symphony. The art works of the two artists are inspired by color in its poetic form. The organic shapes of the natural world and the subtleties and boldness of its hues has greatly influenced them. While their works are abstract, Hope and McCabe’s paintings differ in their conceptual underpinnings.
Vivid colors juxtaposed in calligraphic forms inspired by music, shapes the heart of McCabe’s work. Nature’s colors and forms have fascinated her since she was a child. Her mother taught her Japanese calligraphy. She loves music, plays the piano and has classical vocal training. All these experiences created the foundation for a life-long love of color, gesture and form. She has exhibited her work extensively at art fairs and galleries in Europe, Tokyo and the United States.
The synthesis of nature, of hidden places, and elusive dreams combined with her inner perceptions creates the mood for Hedda's work. Her colors and shapes lead the eye around the canvas while providing the viewer's imagination with a multitude of possibilities and story lines. Hedda has been painting and exhibiting her work since receiving her B.A. from Stanford in Fine Art and graduate studies at UCLA and Otis Art Institute.
Both artists came to the United States from other cultures—Hope from Germany and McCabe from Japan. They have traveled extensively throughout the world and enjoyed the various art and cultures discovered in their travels. Through ‘The Poetry of Colors’, the two artists share their journeys and influences.
