Gallery House will be presenting new work by Celma Kirkwood and Joyce Savre in their show called "Canvas and Clay" from May 30th -June 24.
Reception will be Saturday, June 10 5-8pm at Gallery House, located at 320 S. California Avenue in Palo Alto.
Celma Kirkwood developed her signature style - complex, organic forms in harmony with vivid surface decoration - during her first career in Brazil as an architect and architecture professor. Now a full time artist, Celma's work in clay is evidence of the endless possibilities clay has to offer. Each handbuilt piece is unique, and both shape and surface decoration happen through a process that involves less planing than feeling with her hands the possibilities in the clay, as the piece evolves.
Joyce Savre came to painting by way of poetry and whereas writing had been embedded in the layers of her work, more recently it has surfaced to become the subject. These paintings as well as music themed work and her fields of wild flowers, based on the plentiful bounty found near Stanford Hospital will be presented. Her work suggests rhythm of music, rhythm of language and rhythm of the fields. Only you will be able to tell if it resonates with your own heartbeat.
