Transmission, an international online solo sculpture art exhibition by Jeremy Davis opens on March 01, and will continue for two months until April 30, 2024.
Jeremy Davis's work is about transmission. Sound couldn’t be perceived if it didn’t run into something first. As we navigate this world and interact with it, we do this in the midst of sound. Interchangeably, we are both the receivers and transmitters of it. I’m interested in that space between its origin and destination. Between people. Between the first and last page. That critical distance can be far; but in truth only takes a moment to traverse. The transmission. The space between the source and the target is predefined. I find that it is an active space, full of energy, not so dissimilar to the space between birth and death. Both take a certain amount of time to resolve. The concept can be reduced to those awkward gaps in conversation or unexpected pause at the end of sentences left unfinished, unanswered. Sound takes time to get where it is going. It travels to us, envelops us, leaving no part untouched. It is expected. When it doesn’t manifest, we are left wanting.

Artist:
I’ve spent years trying to figure out who I am as an artist. In this search, I have moved all over the United States seeking out forms and techniques - both old and new - as a means to study art. Initially, when I was younger, I pursued a classical education in New England as I had hoped to join the vanguard of a new figurative movement in art. I spent years drawing and sculpting from life, studying anatomy, and casting the human form. While I still love it – and in many ways consider it my home – I came to realize there was something lacking for me in that singular pursuit. After some time, and a few life-changing events, I moved to Chicago to pursue graduate studies in sculpture and sound art. After graduation, and teaching at SAIC for few years, I was awarded a tenure-track position at Central Michigan University where I am now a tenured Associate Professor.
