New York, NY. Porter Contemporary presents Bliss Point, a solo exhibition of new mixed media works by Jeff Huntington opening with an artist reception on Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM.

Although Jeff Huntington has always been a painter, in 2012 he began “painting” by using magazine clippings as his medium. By stitching together disparate images, Huntington transforms his chosen subject, predominantly portraiture, into a textured landscape of photographic imagery—result being painterly in nature.

Through portraiture, Huntington is known for addressing broader issues in his work including Super Models, a series that presented grotesquely anorexic creatures invented from contemporary fashion magazines. More recently in his last solo show at Porter Contemporary in 2011, Plaques and Tangles presented portraits of Huntington’s father and his grandchildren, focusing on distortions that happen in the mind of a person with Alzheimer's disease. Bliss Point is no less issue-focused and finds its roots in the staggering facts that there are 23.9 million American children and 154.7 million American adults who are overweight or obese.*  Bliss Point is a series of portraits depicting sugar-addicted children through the combination of paint and collaged magazine images of desserts.
