An event about hard science and serious fun led by artist Randy Colosky in conjunction with the members of S.A.S.A. (Sentient Armchair Scientist Association)
The Sentient Armchair Scientist Association presents Lift Off!!! an event for rocket builders, aficionados and theorists. The group will construct rockets from plastic water bottles and cardboard fueled by baking soda and vinegar.
All ages are welcome to participate. Participants can bring a rocket to the event or build one there. Club members with receive protective glasses, rubber gloves, water bottles, colored tape, cardboard, fuel for rockets and a special S.A.S.A sticker to apply to their rockets just in case they fly into orbit and need to be identified by the International Space Station.
This is the final event in the four-part series Club of the Month Club Quarterly, curated by Daniel Nevers. Throughout 2013, four artists offered unique takes on the idea of clubs by leading visitors through shared rituals, developing new skills together and cultivating common interests. The series began in February 2013 with Respiration Society, a club for breathing bodies led by artists Anne Walsh, Tim Choy and Michael Swaine. The second meeting, Country Club, was a merit-based adventure group led by Jennie Ottinger. And for the third incarnation, artist and swimmer Erik Scollon led SoEx Swim Team, two classes for beginning and continuing swimming enthusiasts, no Speedo required.
