Cynthia Tom Fine Arts & Healing and AAWAA-Asian American Women Artists AssociationPRESENTS: A PLACE OF HER OWN - An arts & healing exhibition that answers the question, “If you had a place of your own, what would it be?” Women artists of diverse Asian ethnicities, backgrounds and generations, working in the visual arts will showcase their very personal responses as art installations using found objects and mixed media.
A PLACE OF HER OWN Thoreau center August 2014 will include an indoor magical garden, an upcycled mannequin, a glass jar containing vandalized car window glass; and much more. These works demonstrate the artists’ internal thought process and courageous undertaking of stretching way beyond their comfort zone.
“A Place of Your Own” curator Cynthia Tom asserts, “It is especially vital that women learn to define what is most important to them, to claim their metaphorical and/or physical place. The goal of this project is to inspire everyone to ask the question: If you had a place of your own, what would it be?”
The conceptual framework and long term goal of this project is to generate a creative place for women to deeply heal, by unravelling decades of family patterns in order to establish their own aspirations and share them with the world, on their own terms.

What’s New for PLACE: Fall 2014 A partnership between Asian American Women Artists Association| Asian Women’s Shelter Cynthia Tom Arts and Healing |Trinity Ordona PhD’s Healing for Change A PLACE OF HER OWN Arts & Healing Residency for Women social service providers in the helping professions. A PLACE OF HER OWN has successfully worked with Asian American women artists, community advocates, social service providers and women with historical trauma looking to overcoming negative patterns. For the Asian American community, PLACE provides a creative solution to address the culturally enforced silence surrounding contemporary and ancestral trauma.
