SAN FRANCISCO, CA (June 5, 2015) – Mirus Gallery, located on the top floor of 540 Howard Street, announces its latest exhibit, Into the Aether, by Portland-based artist, Adam Friedman. The new solo show will open with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 20 and will run through Saturday, July 11. The reception will be open to the public and is complimentary.
“I relish in the mysteries of nature, and I’m curious what happens when we view the cosmos through a lens that breaks the rules of our understanding,” says Friedman. “I strive to present a moment that defies human intervention in the universal landscape, and pays homage to the potential in the inexplicable.”
In addition to works on canvas, Into the Aether will display multiple 3D paintings incorporated in an immersive mural installation. Inspired by physics, multiverse theories, modes of perception, and the limitations of knowledge, Friedman’s work aims to expand viewers’ perspectives beyond his previous earthly tone and out... into the aether.
Receiving his BFA from the University of Oregon in 2006, Adam Friedman lives and works in Portland. He went on to receive his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2008. The artist’s work has been shown extensively in numerous exhibitions spanning the Pacific Northwest, as well as New York, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area, and has been featured in publications such as BLOUIN ARTINFO, Beautiful Decay Magazine, and NY Arts Magazine. In accordance with this exhibition, the artist was awarded two grants: the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant and the Clark College Faculty Development Grant.
Mirus Gallery is a dynamic exhibition space established by curator and art dealer, Paul Hemming. The gallery features a program of contemporary artwork by emerging and midcareer artists in both solo and thematically organized group shows. Mirus Gallery highlights work that emphasizes skill and process and aims to engage viewers on a sentient, emotional and evocative level. In 2013 the artist-in-residence program was initiated, further pursuing the gallery’s values of community and collaboration by providing a live-in and on-site studio space for artists to create and exhibit work in a supportive environment, conducive to creativity.
