Punk, Funk & the Absurd: A Night of Performance

Country:

Categories:

Date:
Saturday, 11 August 2018

This one night only performance event compliments the visual art exhibition Funk Ain’t Dead, curated by Matt Goldberg, and serves as the closing event for the exhibition. In the context of this show, live performance whether musical, participatory, or multi-media offers engagement into the many facets and influences of Funk Art.

By escaping a central definition of what “Funk” entails, this evening of performance presents diverse musical performances by Chaki, Sputnik and Swiftumz, as well as participatory performances by exhibiting artists, Joey Enos and Heesoo Kwon. Additionally, this event will be emceed by Clyde Always, The Bard of the Lower Haight.

Punk, Funk & the Absurd intends to provide an alternative experience of our shared experiences of joy, color and the “hot, committed, bizarre and sensuous” elements of Funk Art. The immediacy of live and interactive performances in relationship to the visual exhibition offers an additional exploration of the many individual and unique paths of Funk makers today.

Featuring performances by:

Chaki: Cory Sklar, vocals, bass, drums, and synth

Clyde Always: Emcee, The Bard of the Lower Haight

Joey Enos: Sculptural Guitar performance

Heesoo Kwon: Leymusoom, bible writing ceremony participatory performance

Sputnik: Matt Goldberg, vocals and base

Swiftumz: Brian Hamilton, Lead Guitar, Christopher McVicker, Guitar, Vocals, Marie Davenport, Bass amd Chris Kohler, Drums
