The “Art of American Craft” museum series announces the American Fine Craft Show Brooklyn at Brooklyn Museum, November 22-23, 2014. This is the second year at Brooklyn Museum, planned in time for holiday shopping.
“After the success in Brooklyn, we developed the series to help recognize master craftsmanship and museum-quality work in a category—crafts—that is misunderstood,” said Richard Rothbard, co-founder and co-director. “A museum venue sends the message that visitors should anticipate seeing outstanding examples of sculpture, ceramics, decorative fiber, furniture, glass, jewelry and fashion handmade by the exhibitors we select.” In Brooklyn there will be 90. “How many museum visitors are aware that much of what they see in exhibitions found its origins in the work of artisanal craftsmen--designers of ceramics, jewelry, furniture, glass and fashion?”
The Art of American Craft series will add two shows at museums in 2015 at Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, Conn., April 24-26 and Monmouth Museum, Lincroft, N.J. in October.
