Laurina Paperina

Welcome to Duckland

Exhibition on view September 12 – October 21, 2017

Laurina Paperina was born 1980 in Rovereto, Italy. Lives in Trento, Italy.

Laurina Paperina (which translates from Italian to English as “Little Laura Little Duck”) immersed herself from a young age in an alternate universe filled with comic books, cartoons and silly characters. She hungrily gobbled these fantastical media forms up like food and they have since become an intrinsic part of her alter ego, in her own words, a “strange mutant with a human body and duck feet”. In her artwork Paperina loves to mock famous contemporary artists and their big name dealers. She makes parodies of celebrity, super heroes and pop culture icons. In fact, no one is safe, not even herself, from getting brutally maimed in her animations, installations and prolific works on paper.  She has exhibited extensively throughout Europe, the USA and beyond. Her super power is her ability to create art that ameliorates the abundance of seriousness in the world and makes us smile.
