Evgeniya Golik "Esoterica"

Exhibition Type:

How many artists:
Saturday, 4 May 2024 to Sunday, 30 June 2024
Saturday, 4 May 2024 - 5:00pm to 8:00pm

Russian born artist Evgeniya Golik’s highly detailed, pop-surrealist work easily activates the imagination of viewers. Her paintings and drawings are like doors to a mystical realm containing a myriad of beautiful human faces and fantastical creatures who express their secrets and stories through symbolic language. Her penchant for hatch shading and meticulously rendered hair catches the eye just as much as the unusual subject matter depicted. Introduced to esoteric subject matter at a young age by her paternal grandmother, she explores subjects such as medicinal plants, natural remedies, astrology, and fortune telling in her work.

Golik’s works will be on view at Sparks Gallery from May 4 – June 30, 2024 with a reception on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 5-8pm.

This is a free event, but RSVP is encouraged, RSVP at

Artist ( Description ):

“Deep gazes, halos, long necks, blossoming skins, gold leaves, secrets, and stars…”

Evgeniya Golik (also known as Evgola) is a Russian born pop-surrealist based in San Diego, California.

Golik graduated Art School at the age of 17, and having studied at the Far Eastern State Technical University in Vladivostok, Russia, Golik graduated and earned her degree in Design and Architecture. In the present moment, she is a full-time fine artist, illustrator, educator.

Inspired by the European Renaissance, Russian Orthodox icons, Slavic folklore, fairy tales and modern pop culture (fashion, photography, cinematography, music), Golik’s art combines a classic sensibility within a contemporary setting, something which artist-self defines as ‘Neo-Renaissance’.

Using a variety of media, her work joins real world portraiture with imaginative and often surreal narratives to highlight and reveal her subject’s personalities.

Golik’s paintings and drawings are doors to a mystical realm, one which showcases a myriad of beautiful human faces and fantastical creatures, that seek to express their secret through esoteric language.

Golik has been working notably with The Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA), Museum Of Latin American Art (MOLAA), Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD), New Americans Museum (NAM) and with James Hubbell & Ilan-Lael Foundation (Pacific Rim Park Project). Her art has been exhibited in various Galleries within the USA and Europe, as well as being published and commissioned by private collectors all over the world.

“The utopian visions of Evgeniya Golik’s (Evgola) work resonate and swell inside of you like glints of sunlight undulating with the current. Her ability to capture serenity alongside the unique complexities of its surreal counterpart is inspiring. Journey into the narrative of her captivating subjects… and let your imagination soar.” – Bella Harris, Beautiful Bizarre Magazine.
