“ My aim in creating my more recent collection of In-Spiral-ed works, is to take a look beyond some of the cultural constraints we tend to hang onto, and maybe focus on some essential and perhaps forgotten elements. What do these elements mean, if anything? What is the natural world telling us? How do these elements connect us as humans? It depends on how one sees it, however, to me, the theme of “In-spiral- ed” represents the enigma of our own cultural trappings and yet concurrently finding our way out, as the intrinsic spiral shape itself, suggests. In-Spiral-ed will feature newer works by Julia Muench.
Artist:
Muench’s fiber art constructions, sometimes described as whimsical and surreal, reveal her way of combining color and form, eliciting an emotional response. A larger piece can take upon to a few months to create. Muench’s art work can be viewed at her online gallery: https://www.artworkarchive.com/profile/julia-muench
In-Spiral-ed art exhibit opens to the public, on Saturday, July the 3rd, 2021, and runs through July the 21st. Hours run from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesdays through Saturdays, and Sundays from 12:00 noon to 6:00 PM.
Julia feels her art work does not completely fit into any particular “category of art”. She finds joy in her work, and hopes it may be a way to reach a variety of audiences, regardless of different backgrounds. Many times Julia gets asked if her pieces are “paintings”. She replies…”In a sense, they are, only in the way that I will select specific colors and patterns within the fabric and threads, beads etc. I use, in much the same way one would select certain colors of paints. I tend to top-stitch or quilt directionally, similar to the way a brush -stroke direction or pen might go. In nature, we find repeating patterns and geometric forms. Julia’s finds her inspiration for her creations through the ubiquitous structures of the natural world. Human interest: Julia is an emerging visual artist, living here in Monmouth County for the past 25 years.
