“Recollections” is a new show featuring two painters with very unique styles, Charlotte Coqui and Radha Rao, at Gallery House, 320 S. California Ave., Palo Alto, CA from April 2nd through the 27th, 2019. A reception for the artists will take place on Saturday, April 5th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Free to the public.
People often say, "I can't remember," when what they really mean is, "I can't recall." Either in auditory or visual fashion. The first memories recorded were not written, they were drawn or painted or impressed into a material. In this exhibition, “Recollections,” Radha presents her larger studio pieces based on plein air paintings from her trip to Provence in the summer of 2018. Charlotte captures the sensations of her body's experience in 2019.
Charlotte Coqui works with luminous colors exploring life in the Bay Area. A naturalist at heart, she channels sunlight and shadow, body and feeling, imagery and sensations, onto a 2D surface.
Radha Rao is predominantly an oil painter and dabbles in other medium, such as charcoal and sketches in watercolors. Radha’s primary focus is Plein Air landscapes done in an impressionist style; she utilizes bold colors and varied textures. This combination helps set a very specific tone for the viewer. Related to this, she has a strong connection to wildlife, farm animals and their surroundings, and strives to capture their emotions through her brushwork.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 11am-3pm. 320 S. California Ave., Palo Alto, Ca (650-326-1668)
