Agora Gallery is pleased to announce Opening the Window, on view March 26, 2019 through April  16, 2019. The exhibition features eleven artists, all of whom present unique perspectives on the dichotomy between figuration and abstraction. This selection of artists includes Howard Harris, Benjamin L.M., Cordes Yorio, Vanessa Elaine, Renzo Sanchez-Silva, Emmanuelle Auzias, Vargas Guevara, Fleur Campbell, Claudio Stefanoni, Wendy Yeager, and Carlos Arango (clos).

The exhibition title Opening the Window suggests a spontaneous sense of discovery, allowing a new atmosphere and light to enter the closure of a room. The more traditionally figurative works on exhibit incorporate different media and showcase landscapes; the less representational works, by contrast, alter conventional representations of figure and ground, creating a new perspectival gestalt in the process. Lastly, the purely abstract pieces seem to communicate a covert message, a semaphore of pure color, contours, and shapes.

The works on view introduce viewers to new ways of decoding the binary of abstraction/figuration. Between these two poles is the making of representation, the fidelity art has to spatial perception, and the communication of meaning, even in its most formalist guise.

Opening the Window opens on March 26, 2019 and will be on display until April 16, 2019, with an opening reception on Thursday, March 28, 6-8 PM. All are welcome to attend. Entrance to the gallery is free.
