Sardine is pleased to present 'May We All Get What We Want', a solo exhibition of new work by Justin Q Martin.
'May We All Get What We Want' features a new body of work by Justin Q Martin in sewn fabric and collage on paper. He has also created a new sculpture of denim and satin that occupies unique dimensional space. In these works, basic features of faces (eyes, nose, mouth, ears, etc) are quietly manipulated, simplified, and altered. Though they are not specific individuals, each complex, textural rendering takes on unique personalities. Like emoji granted a taste of life, these cartoons of cartoons have a human-scale softness and gravity. Somewhat skeptical of the world, they take all in with caution. They may look back at you, but only on their own time.

Justin Q Martin lives and works in Brooklyn and has an MFA from Cornell University. This is his first solo exhibition in NY. He has shown with Gallery Rene Mele, Underdonk, Loom Gallery, and Flux Factory.
