SLA Art Space is pleased to present the exhibition A DELICATE BALANCE showcasing the work of two Lithuanian artists  Giedrius Bagdonas and Martynas Gediminas.

The exhibition will be on view from January 10th to February 10th, 2025, with an opening reception taking place on Thursday, January 9th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm.

The exhibition will feature over fifty (small to medium) abstract works and abstract landscape compositions in watercolors by Giedrius Bagdonas and paintings by Martynas Gediminas – exploring themes of existence, the transience and mutability of nature.

Works featured in the exhibition A DELICATE BALANCE stands as a sophisticated yet bold cultural interplay, inviting viewers into an existential dialogue about the relationship between humanity and nature in the 21st century. The thematic range—from the pursuit of natural harmony to the extremes triggered by climate crisis—reveals the artists' profound sensitivity and their ambition to explore our world not only on a physical but also on a spiritual level.

The artists aim to draw the audience into a fragile yet complex conversation about the interdependence of modern humanity and the natural world. Each piece reflects a unique perspective, ranging from introspection of the inner self to global ecological concerns. This synthesis delves into emotional and spiritual ecology, positioning art as a bridge between humanity and the cosmos.

At the heart of the exhibition lies the concept of art ecology—both as a conceptual framework and an aesthetic exploration. Giedrius and Martynas want their art to transcend storytelling, and become a tool for fostering sustainability. The portrayal of urban and societal ecology invites reflections on the interplay between everyday life and our environment, particularly within the fast-paced rhythms of metropolitan existence.

Curator :

Artist ( Description ):

Martynas Gediminas (b. 1974) has a master’s degree in textile art and design from the Vilnius Academy of Arts. In his work, he pays a lot of attention to the overlapping surface textures, materiality and rhythmic structure. Recently, working mainly in the field of painting, he has been layering his works with large strokes focusing on bright-colored abstract compositions. A certain impression of moderate pauses is maintained between the intensities of colors on the canvas. The artist experiments a lot. He levels the tactility of acrylic paint and hides it under the printing ink then presses it, paints over it again, foils it and adds various metals, as if destroying any trace of color and refining the variability of the visible image, which depends on the point of view and the trajectory of the gaze that creates it. The artist doesn’t glorify or take care of the painting surface, but rather boldly provokes the work itself to unfold before the viewer’s eyes with extremely authentic and distinctive features.

Giedrius Bagdonas

Born in 1971 in Vilnius, Lithuania. Finished Vilnius Academy of Arts in 1995. Now he is leading Vilnius Uzupis art incubator. Giedrius had 9 personal exhibitions and participated in more than 70 group exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. His paintings are characterized by the multilayer color and texture, creating a mysterious space reflecting the inner mood.
