To celebrate Asia Week 2019, the Anthony Horth gallery in Soho, NYC launches an art show titled "Life: A Show of Asian Art” with visiting artist Ms. Hong Yu. Using the ancient art of lacquer painting, Chinese artist Ms. Hong Yu captures an analysis of life in its various forms, stages, and relationships, while incorporating traditional Chinese motifs.

Trained in biology, Ms. Hong Yu’s work reflects her keen interest in biological sciences, and her hope is to instill in the viewer an appreciation for humanity’s connection to life on earth in all its embodiments. Ms. Hong Yu’s work has been featured in exhibitions throughout Asia, winning numerous awards in Sculpture and Creative Design, as well as in her own studio in Fuzhou City.

Through showcasing these pieces, both the Anthony Horth Gallery and Ms. Hong Yu hope to use their art to not only raise awareness about environmental issues, but also to demonstrate the beauty and fragility of these natural landscapes and the creatures that call them home.

About the artist: Ms. Hong Yu is a Chinese artist living and working in Fuzhou City. She has been instrumental in preserving the practice of lacquer art, a piece of tangible Chinese cultural heritage, studying under the tutelage of National Master Heju Wang. Ms. Hong Yu is the founder of the “Puyuan” Lacquer Art Studio where she is chief designer, instructing her own students in the best way to preserve and experiment with the ancient art.

The Anthony Horth gallery is located at 156 Wooster Street, NY, NY 1001 and features the work of landscape photographer Anthony Horth, mixed media artist Russ Ronat, and painter Marcelo Daldoce.
