Atlantic Gallery is proud to announce the sixth solo show by Roni Sherman Ramos who has been exhibiting here over the course of nine years. My art practice has become a challenge as I continue to lose my sight. I have macular degeneration, so details and paint colors are increasingly more difficult to identify with assurance. 

The good news is that by keeping up with alternative treatments, I have saved my eyes from losing central vision entirely. So, hooray, I can still paint! The vibrant palette I choose now may be my way of compensating for diminished visual acuity.

My process begins with multiple layers of paint which are gradually uncovered through sanding and scraping. I love watching the undertones reveal themselves. 

Over dried paint, I apply wet paint loaded with solvent or medium. I use a squeegee to mix colors and notice how they blend together and how shapes are transformed. I stop when I’m satisfied. I love the guided serendipity of it all.
