Phyllis Chillingworth: The Experience of Seeing

Atlantic Gallery is pleased to present The Experience of Seeing, the 6th solo show by Phyllis Chillingworth, on view from May 13 to May 31, 2025. The Opening Reception: Thursday, May 15. Chillingworth has a clarity of vision, a unique color sense and the ability to create paintings of impact that excite the senses. They are as much about her as they are about the inspiration of the moment. Chillingworth states: “There is more on my brushes than pigment.”  Each painting tells a story and shifts the viewer’s perspective, looking up, over, through and beyond. She invites you to experience the fascination, emotion and symbolism that they each evoke.

"This stunning body of work communicates Chillingworth's deep connection to the beauty of the natural world. The luminosity and purity of vision each of the compositions holds, invites us to feel the spark of her inspiration. Generously offering a window to her process, her fresh collages and watercolors allow us to take a deeper journey into her practice. The pieces are gem-like distillations of the spirit of both the artist and the places she loves."

Phyllis Chillingworth lives in NYC and Montauk. Her paintings have been featured in many shows on Long Island and at Concord Arts, MA. Chillingworth holds a BFA/MFA from TheYale School of Art and a BS from The Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. Phyllis has studied painting with Ophrah Shemesh in NYC and at Visual Arts Italy in Gaeta, Italy.
