Maddox Gallery Los Angeles is proud to present When Books Were Famous, an exhibition of works created by British artist and novelist Harland Miller.
Launching his career as a writer in 2000, and then as an artist one year later with his first series of reimagined Penguin Book covers, Miller’s canvases marry his love for words and art by depicting the dust jackets of classic novels with sardonic titles and taglines.
With the belief that books are not only the carrier of tales but also objects in their own right, Miller applies his skill as a novelist to every painting, setting up each of his large-scale canvases with the potential for its own unique narrative.
Featuring an array of popular prints as well as paintings, including ‘Love Saves the Day’ and ‘Who Cares Wins’, When Books Were Famous promises an unprecedented look at Miller’s oeuvre.
