SculptureCenter Opening & Community Day - Sunday, October 5, Noon - 5PM

On Sunday, October 5, SculptureCenter will celebrate the opening of its newly renovated and expanded facility and the inaugural exhibition Puddle, pothole, portal.  The event will be held from 12-5PM on Sculpture Street (Purves Street) and will be free to the public with museum admission fees waived all afternoon.

 The event offers free family-friendly activities from 12–3PM including exhibition tours, nail art by Vanity Projects, a photo booth by LAZY MOM (artists Josie Keefe and Phyllis Ma), a comic book-making contest judged by artists Paul DeMuro and Meghan Turbitt, art-making activities with Alex Schmidt aka Body Positive, face painting, music, food from local vendors, and beverages from Rockaway Brewery CoLemonade will perform a DJ set in SculptureCenter’s courtyard.

 The program will highlight the newly renovated expansion which includes a 2,000 square foot addition designed by Andrew Berman Architect.  NYC Cultural Affairs Commissioner Tom Finkelpearl and New York City Council Majority Leader Jimmy van Bramer will open the newly expanded building with a ribbon cutting ceremony.  The ceremony, featuring the Long Island City Music Academy Court Square Youth Choir, will also celebrate the official co-naming of Purves Street as Sculpture Street.

Subway Directions:

E or M to Court Square/23rd Street

Exit at front of train at the Citicorp Tower. Turn left onto Jackson Avenue and walk two blocks. Turn right onto Purves Street. (Note: the M train does not run on weekends)

 

G to Court Square

Exit at front of train at (Court Square / Citicorp Tower). Turn left onto Jackson Avenue and walk three blocks. Turn right onto Purves Street (immediately after 44th Drive).

 

7 to Court Square

Exit onto Jackson Avenue, turn left and walk two blocks. Turn right onto Purves Street.

 

N or Q to Queensboro Plaza

 

Exit at front of train onto Queens Boulevard. Turn right on 27th Street and walk two blocks. Turn left on 43rd Avenue and walk one block to Jackson Avenue. Cross Jackson Avenue. Jog to the right onto Purves Street.
