This holiday season Gilman Contemporary celebrates artists who have spent the last year exploring and developing their art in new and intriguing ways. Our exhibition, will explore the power of evolution, with a focus on abstract art, in a time of uncertainty.

New to the gallery is Arizona artist Mayme Kratz. Walking the dusty, hot landscape collecting seeds, bones and other odd bits that most might overlook, Kratz forages materials for her work. Her walks reveal the fragile ecosystems and strange beauty of the Southwest.  She then layers this detritus in colored resin, transforming the humble materials into lyrical compositions.

Italian painter, Marco Casentini conceived a new style during his quarantine in Milan. In his latest paintings, Casentini has introduced layers of dense grids or stripes over his signature overlapping planes of color. Painted on the metal surface of composite panels, the intricate linear work of Casentini’s compositions vibrate with color while still revealing the color forms beneath.

Craig Mooney’s newest paintings of cityscapes are based on memory and understanding of the valleys and canyons created by monumental buildings. There is a romantic quality to this new work, each piece is created with an atmospheric lens that is almost dreamlike. They are familiar, yet lack specificity, creating the perfect escape.
