From the artist:
Some people categorize photographs according to what they see in them: landscapes, sports, news, still life, portraiture, etc. To me, all photographs document the light at a particular moment, whatever the object(s) they depict. So, the subject of my photographs is the light. The objects are important. I try to render them beautifully, with proper form and balance, but only if the light is right at that moment. I create my photographs with found objects. I pay attention to the natural light where I am, and also the time of day and time of year. Light changes moment to moment, due to the sun’s movement, the weather and season. But, in the cycle of seasons, the sun’s trajectory repeats, spring brings flowers and birds, autumn brings colors, and winter brings ice and snow. It took several years to get that picture of the Great Blue Heron. I want to thank my teachers at The School of Visual Arts in New York City, particularly Tad Yamashiro and Todd Watts; Fujifilm for making a digital camera that makes it easier to capture what I see; Lorraine DeSouza of exPressive Print in Ashburnham MA for working with me to render my photographs in the prints that you see here; and Deb O’Hanlon for her support, tenacity, assistance, and love.
