Description : Campers will work together to create doodles, zines and masks based on self-reflections and self-portraits. Students will learn to translate thoughts and feelings into forms and colors, to create characters with basic shapes, and to repurpose everyday materials into art pieces.

Teacher's Bio : Luisa Martínez holds a MA Arts Politics form NYU and a BA in Sociology and Latin-American Studies from UC Berkeley. She is a fronteriza artist, arts organizer and educator. She feels deeply identified with border endeavors that extend notions of geography. Understanding contradictions and ambiguities as natural parts of life that spur growth and transformation. Luisa’s work searches for empathy. She believes that caring for one another and asking for help are the most subversive and necessary actions we can exercise.   Luisa has organized cultural situations and created art since 2008, working with artists from the regional Ruidosón music scene and with projects like Otros Dreams en Acción (ODA), A Band of Voters, Out Here, IMPERFECTU, Borderlandnoise, Las Fotos Project, among many others. Luisa works towards the promotion of emerging artists and the use of creative practices as modes of social transformation.  Luisa is co-founder and organizer of Tijuana Zine Fest, which searches to encourage self-publishing as a form of expression, self-motivation, and cross-border communication. She continues to develop work in different media, including but not limited to illustration, photography, and installation.
