Join us for an engaging hands-on workshop where you'll dive deep into the fascinating world of reduction glazes. This specialised course is designed for ceramic enthusiasts eager to explore the unique qualities and effects achieved through reduction firing techniques. The Masterclass is being led by Elena Gileva, the founder of GLOST Glaze. Elena is an artist and ceramics teacher who has been practising and experimenting with glazes for nearly two decades. She came to realise that many of the important manifestations of her practice; unpredictability, graspability, complexity and community are consolidated in the rich world of glaze making. She is the curator of our upcoming exhibition, Ground Works, which runs from Monday 12 May - Sunday 29 June 2025 at County Hall Pottery.

Dates: Saturday 21 June & Sunday 22 June, with kiln opening and debrief on Saturday 28 June
Time: 11am - 5pm with an hour for lunch
Price: £400

The Science of Reduction Glazes: Understand the chemical processes behind reduction firing, where oxygen is reduced in the kiln atmosphere to create dynamic, unpredictable glaze finishes.

Material Selection: Discover how specific ingredients in glazes, such as iron, copper, and others, react in a reduction environment to produce striking colors and textures.

Firing Process: Gain insights into managing reduction kilns, including timing, temperature ramps, and atmosphere adjustments for optimal results.

Who Should Attend:
This workshop is ideal for beginner to intermediate ceramic artists who want to expand their skills and experiment with reduction techniques.
