OUTCOME: LGBT Portraits - Exhibition

City:

Categories:

Date:
Monday, 10 October 2016 to Friday, 14 October 2016

Exhibition Monday 10 October until 15 October, 10am-5pm (4pm Monday 10th)

The Outcome project: Photographer Tom Dingley started his #Outcome project in 2014, to photograph LGBT people with the attributes of their everyday life – their work or their interests; and holding a picture of themselves as a child – showing that it does get better, by providing young LGBT people with role models for life beyond adolescent angst, uncertainty and bullying. The message is: No matter how hard it is growing up and coming to terms with your sexuality or identity; you can be who you are, living a successful & happy life, out of the closet. The aim is also to help breakdown stereotypes of what a LGBT person looks like, or can be – because there is no absolute definition; as the project shows.

Tom has exhibited the ongoing project at London Pride, Brighton Pride, Student Pride, Digital Pride and as part of LGBT History Month celebrations. Adding more portraits to Outcome over time; the collection now includes Lord Chris Smith, Elly Barnes MBE, Britain’s Got Talent’s La Voix, Bake Off’s John Whaite, The Apprentice’s Sanjay Sood-Smith and Emmerdale’s Alicya Eyo and many other people. The project is a celebration of all LGBT people, known and unknown.

Artist ( Description ):

Tom Dingley

Born and still living in Greenwich, London, Tom is a gallery manager and freelance commercial photographer; focussing his time on photography commissions, exhibitions events and projects.

Tom has been working on his major project OUTCOME LGBT Portraits since 2014, finding and photographing subjects, some of whom are well known, and exhibiting at Pride and LGBT History month in numerous venues in London and the South East.

With the publication of the book of the project by Arachne Press, the plan is to promote the book and take the project around the country with a series of exhibitions and linked studio days. With 112 portraits to date, 80 of which are in the book, Tom hopes to substantially increase the scope and diversity of the project through new contacts throughout the UK.

Other Info:

Tom will have pop-up studio days for LGBT people who would like to be photographed for Outcome at the above address on Tuesday 11th & Thursday 13th October – drop in or arrange beforehand. The university is organising a number of events linked to the exhibition, including a public Q&A panel on Wednesday 12th 1-2pm.more information: : http://alumni.gre.ac.uk/outcome/
