Vaughan Grylls, an artist who has been making work about the United States for the last 50 years, returns to The Batsford Gallery with a show that eviscerates half a century of American culture and politics through drawing, large-scale photography and photo-montage. A must-see, especially in this year of the presidential elections. Contact us for catalogue and press enquiries.
Artist:
Vaughan Grylls is a British artist, photographer, and author. Known for his fine art photography and sculptures, Grylls first received recognition for his 1960s pun-sculptures and, later, for his 1980s photography and panoramic photo collages.
Grylls was an artist ahead of his time. Back in the 1980s, he was using streams of photos, jigsaw imagery, flashes of life and colour before the advent of digital video and photography. The difference between Grylls and the ubiquitous Insta world, is that his work was painstaking analogue and is on a truly vast scale -– many of his pieces would struggle to find a wall big enough. His rightful position at the vanguard of the image/photo revolution is only just now really beginning to be understood.
