Prologue

For Prologue, ten painters present histories and fables, processes and gestures, personal and collective narratives grounded in the experience of creating and regarding a painted surface.

Serving to inaugurate Offshoot as a new space for contemporary art and to present a broad slice of contemporary painting, Prologue seeks to introduce some of those who are pushing paint the hardest and furthest today. Taking in love and death, Brexit and Bitcoin, stillness and motion, mystery, jokes, sadness and rage, the works on show demonstrate the continued range and vitality of painting as a response to ever-strange times.
