Seven Skies for Venice, a solo exhibition by Anna Peter Breton, curated by Roberta Semeraro. Inspired by the Ptolemaic-Aristotelian theory of the seven celestial spheres, the show explores spirituality and beauty through the skies of Venice and the sacred lakes of Kyrgyzstan.
Born in 1985 with Hungarian and Kyrgyz roots, Breton has lived in Paris since 2009. Her work reflects on identity, memory, and the fleeting nature of beauty, merging personal introspection with a broader commentary on life’s fragility.
Drawing from her nomadic heritage, she transcends geographical and temporal boundaries, forging a deep connection with nature. From watercolor travel journals to oil paintings, her evolving practice mirrors both physical and inner journeys. Breton’s ethereal compositions—soft gradients, shifting light, and monochromatic tones—capture nature’s delicate transformations, inviting quiet contemplation.
The Seven Skies series pays tribute to the sky’s eternal beauty. As curator Roberta Semeraro notes:
"Her warm-hued oils, layered like transparent veils, reveal the immutable and timeless essence of the skies, which, indifferent to time and humankind, are reborn each day in poetic splendor."
Rooted in ancient cosmology, these paintings evoke the ascent through celestial spheres, with the seventh sky symbolizing ultimate bliss. Breton finds echoes of this transcendence both in Kyrgyzstan’s high-altitude lakes and in Venice, where the sky is mirrored in canals, alleys, and palaces. The exhibition also nods to Giovan Battista Tiepolo, the Venetian master whose frescoes seem to touch the divine.
More than a tribute to nature, Seven Skies for Venice bridges cultures, eras, and landscapes, blending the artist’s nomadic essence with Venice’s history and spirituality. Through her luminous skies, Breton invites viewers on a meditative journey through impermanence and eternity.
