Until August 31, 2025, the M9 – Museo del ’900 in Venice Mestre presents Escalation >< Involution, a striking immersive installation by multimedia artist Alessandro Zannier. Curated by Paolo Mozzo and Sandro Orlandi Stagl and supported by OOM (Nicholas Bertini and Alex Piacentini), the work is part of a wider cultural program alongside the exhibition Arte salvata, featuring masterpieces by Monet, Renoir, Gauguin, Braque, Dufy, and Marquet.

Hosted in the 400 sqm immersive room “Orizzonti” — equipped with 13 projectors and 20 speakers — the installation combines visuals and sound to reflect on the Anthropocene. In just ten intense minutes, shifting data-based landscapes and an enveloping soundscape (composed by Zannier himself, also known as musician Ottodix) immerse visitors in the fast-paced contradictions of our time: environmental collapse, cultural decline, and increasing technological dependency.

More than an artwork, Escalation >< Involution is an experience. Environmental and anthropic data gathered from institutions and research centers (including the Italian CNR) are transformed into emotional and aesthetic forms, expressing the alarming rise toward the “tipping point” — a threshold of irreversible global impact.

The installation expands upon Zannier’s ENT Project – 6 Continents, previously shown at the Venice Biennale (Italy 2021, Cameroon 2022), where big data and symbolic visual language were used to trace the fragile balance of our planet.

Here, the escalation of climate and information crises meets the involution of Western culture. These forces intertwine in a sensory narrative, suggesting that Earth itself now acts like a global neural network — interconnected, unstable, yet still open to change.

Produced by ARTantide Gallery (Verona), Escalation >< Involution is a powerful example of how art can move beyond storytelling to shape awareness — blending data, aesthetics, and emotional urgency into a collective experience not just to see, but to live
