Mythopoeïa is an exhibition of metal sculptures and installation by the french artist Kerta von Kubin.

The exhibition will take place from the 4th to the 12th of August inside an old spanish fortress at the top of an hill in the south of Tuscany (Porto Ercole).

Mythopeia is a proposal to rework old greek myths by transposing them in a contemporary context, in a shape of a serie of metal sculptures.

All those sculptures are bridges between a legendary past and a modern reality, they are an higly symbolistic interpretation of a world «in between», a world where, looking back at those old fictions we find the keys to open the doors of the understanding of our present.

This «in-between» appears by crossing, creating gateways between concepts, ideas by putting in relation the universality, the timelessness of the myths and a totally subjective vision of the world.

The choice of sculptures as mean of expression came as a challenge regarding the importance of this discipline in the antique Greece from where those myths are coming from, but here, they are strictly opposed to the statuary tradition in which the object, in a domination position, is put in front of the viewer, they are on the contrary, thought as interactive installations asking viewer’s participation, experimenting them as well as in their realisation.

The metal work, the use of steel is also an essential element of this project, emblem of our time, it is what sustains our world, always present in the background as structure of every constructions.

Each sculpture is made of steel mixed with an other material (concrete, messing, copper...) as the different mythological sources are always related to an other field of knowledge (science, philosophy, litterature, economy...).

Artist ( Description ):

Kerta von Kubin is born in 1990 in the south of France.

She is a multidisciplinary artist and researcher in philosophy, working and living between Lyon, Berlin and Tuscany.

After a master of philosophy she gathered various experiences in the art and social fields in Berlin.

From 2010 to 2013 she was involved as a metal sculptor and the president of the association ArtProTacheles, in charge of the Tacheles sculpture parc (Mitte), after the closing of the place she founded and builded the art center Kunstwerkstatt Marzahn (in Marzahn, Berlin), where she is still working and organising socio-cultural projects.

She was also part of the experimental music scene, taking part in different  projects, as guitarist and percussionist.

In 2016 she moved to Lyon and Grosseto (Tuscany) where she opened two ateliers and a gallery.

She is currently working and living between the two places as an artist developing interactive A/V installation, metal sculptures, photography… and as an handcraft, working as a furniture and interior designer.

Since 2017 she is also following a PhD in Philosophy and art under the co-direction of the Pr. Mauro Carbone ( from the university of philosophy Lyon 3) and the artist Bernhard Rüdiger (from the national school of fine arts of lyon, ENSBA).

As a self-taught artist in different fields, I have always seen the art process in a paradigmatic way, conceiving art as total and global. My work has thus many facets and is situated between art, handcraft and cultural engineering. Art is for me the power to see and create new links, bridges between ideas and people.

Venue ( Address ):

Forte Stella, Loc. Porto Ercole, 58019 Monte Argentario (GR)
