Before words form, before meaning settles, there is touch. There is surface. There is the quiet language of texture, rising from the canvas like a memory asking to be felt rather than explained. In Where Texture Speaks: Inner Metaphorical Stories Coming Alive, Volha Naruta-Johnson invites viewers into a realm where inner landscapes take shape through layered matter, symbolic imagery, and emotionally charged color.
Born in Belarus, shaped by travel, and now based in the United States, Naruta-Johnson brings a deeply personal and universal sensibility to her mixed-media practice. Her works do not seek to illustrate a single narrative. Instead, they unfold as psychological and spiritual terrains, where mountains fracture, wings ignite, figures ascend, and faces carry the weight of lived experience. Each piece becomes a metaphorical mirror, reflecting moments of transformation, memory, doubt, resilience, and awakening.
Texture is not a decorative choice here, it is the core voice of the work. Since early 2025, Naruta-Johnson has embraced tactile materials such as modeling paste and clay, fabric, sand, foil, patina, stencils, dry pigments, gemstones, and spray paints, allowing the surface to embody emotional density. These layered materials echo her long-standing engagement with art therapy, neurographic drawing, sacred geometry, and visual symbolism, disciplines she has studied since her mid-twenties as tools for healing the mind and soul. The resulting works feel lived-in, almost breathed into, as though each ridge and fissure carries a pulse.
Across the exhibition, recurring motifs emerge: phoenix forms suggest rebirth, fractured landscapes speak of inner tension and reconciliation, and human figures appear suspended between earth and sky. Yet the exhibition resists contradiction. As the artist herself believes, there are none, not in people, and not in art. Light and shadow coexist. Strength and vulnerability share the same surface. Texture becomes a bridge between what is spoken and what remains unspoken.
Ultimately, this exhibition is an invitation, not a conclusion. It opens a space where viewers may imagine freely, feel without judgment, and recognize that everything begins within. Naruta-Johnson’s works do not instruct; they resonate. They remind us that art continues through others, like pollen carried across fields, creating new meaning wherever it lands.
Where Texture Speaks: Inner Metaphorical Stories Coming Alive runs from January 10 to March 10, 2026, and can be experienced online via Exhibizone at https://www.exhibizone.com/where-texture-speaks-exhibition.

Artist:
Volha is a mixed media artist. She was born in Belarus, traveled around the world, and is now based in the USA. Wife and mother. Her work merges psychology, the science of the soul, and spirituality, as she believes that everything in us is a reflection of both. She started to work with texture (modeling paste, modeling clay, fabric, gelatin, spray paints, cellophane, patina, sand, foil, stencils, dry pigments, gemstones) in January 2025, but her journey began earlier. Since she was 26, she has studied art therapy, neurographic drawing, sacred geometry, and visual symbols as tools for soul and mind healing. Her paintings open up a space for self-expression, where there are no boundaries for creativity and self-identity. Every stroke and color is a tribute to the individuality and uniqueness of each person’s spiritual path. It is an invitation to reflection, inspiration, and the connection of the puzzle pieces about oneself and the world.
