Voyage in Metallic Form, an international online solo drawing art exhibition by David Grable opens on April 16, and will continue for two months until June 16, 2024.

Early on, David Grable was trained to paint and draw realistically by his aunt, although surreal style influenced most of his works in his 20s. He started drawing again later and felt he had to break older patterns  and revisiting his work went down the path of being very abstract. Nowadays, he uses a combination of abstraction with realistic images to render the newer work - most of it feminine in face and form.

Artist ( Description ):

Currently living in Connecticut, David Grable, born in Carrolton, IL in 1970 began oil painting and drawing at age 8 under his aunt's guidance. Although he initially attended college for art, he eventually pursued computer science instead. After a long hiatus from doing art he returned to his love of drawing in 2017 and hasn’t put down his pencil since then.

Grable's artwork is characterized by abstract, surreal, biomechanical, and fantasy elements, influenced by artists such as Zdzislaw Beksinski, H.R. Giger, and Allen Williams. He primarily works with graphite and colored pencils on paper and claybord surfaces, enjoying the challenges that different materials present. David is intrigued by the use of light and shadow to create atmosphere and mood in his art.

David is often waiting for the surface he’s working on to speak with him, give him a nudge in the direction he should go. It is often the imperfections of the surface that lead to truly unique artwork.
