Renaissance Renewal, an international online oil painting exhibition by Libby Bailey opens on September 01 and will continue for two months until October 31, 2023.

Libby Bailey's art may be described as realistic, surrealistic, colorful, textural, complex, narrative and metaphorical. The realism refers to the visual believability of the people, objects, landscapes and architecture. The surrealism denotes the juxtapositions of motifs that are not ordinarily found together and the tilted, distorted perspective spaces.

Color is an essential aspect of Libby's work as it creates the aesthetic and emotional impact and the textures of the oil paint and brush strokes on the canvas create s surface vibration. The characters and settings suggest stories left to the imagination. The religious and mythological symbols are metaphors for psychological and spiritual states of mind. Just as mythologists and philosophers have noted cross currents of meaning among myths and allegories across time and location, she combines people, places and symbols from different times and places to create visual dreams.

Artist ( Description ): 

A Georgia native, Libby Bailey has been painting since the age of three. She received BFA, MFA and Ph. D. degrees from the University of Georgia. Her style may be described as surrealistic, mosaic-like, and tapestry-like. Along with her work in oil and watercolor painting, Libby creates woodblock prints, etchings, pastels and collages. The Georgia Museum of Art in Athens owns a set of Christmas woodblock prints and an oil painting. Wesleyan College, in Macon, Georgia, where Libby taught art history for most of forty-four years, displays several oil paintings and watercolors. Little Carnegie of the South, a concert hall and art gallery in Macon exhibits several paintings and prints. Most of her work is owned by private collectors. In 2015 Libby received the Georgia Governor’s Award for the Arts and Humanities in recognition for her lifelong dedication to creating, teaching, and preserving art. Libby is currently painting in the north Georgia mountains.
