Polarity: Harmony in Contrast is an international online solo sculpture exhibition by Cori Schuman, opening on February 1, 2025, and running through April 1, 2025.
Step into the colorful and tactile universe of Cori Schuman’s "Polarity: Harmony In Contrast," a solo online sculpture exhibition that challenges the norms of minimalism and celebrates the dualities of life through maximalist abstraction. Schuman’s work, a brilliant intersection of modern Rococo aesthetics and avant-garde exploration, radiates energy, humor, and depth.
From the vibrantly chaotic "Hives," with its textured, spiked protrusions resembling organic coral reefs, to the playful fluidity of "Spin Me," each piece invites the viewer to pause, ponder, and connect. The bold colors and tactile designs evoke a visceral reaction, drawing one closer to uncover the underlying narratives. "Rococo Dreams," an extravagant yet structured piece, feels like a love letter to historical opulence, reimagined for a modern audience. In contrast, "Sunscreen" dazzles with its layered colors, exuding a sense of warmth and lightheartedness.
Schuman’s ability to blend elaborate ornamentation with deeper conceptual undertones is on full display in works like "Spinal Tap," where bright, chaotic forms hint at the resilience of the human body and spirit. "Vinny," with its exuberant spikes and bold hues, encapsulates the joy and unpredictability that characterizes her practice.
Through "Polarity: Harmony In Contrast," Schuman demonstrates how beauty and complexity coexist, celebrating contrasts while unifying them into cohesive visual statements. Her sculptures not only captivate the eye but also challenge the mind, urging us to find joy in excess and meaning in the layers of life. This exhibition, like Schuman herself, is unapologetically bold, profoundly thoughtful, and irresistibly engaging—a vibrant dance of harmony amidst contrasts.
