Step into the strange and luminous world of Ben Steampunk’n, where industrial ingenuity meets whimsical fantasy, and every gear turns a tale.
“From the Ben Steampunk’n Collection” is a solo sculpture exhibition that invites viewers to suspend belief, reimagine the laws of mechanics, and enjoy a delightfully absurd detour through the mind of a master tinkerer. Officially opening on May 6th and continuing until July 6th, this extraordinary online exhibition is hosted at: https://www.exhibizone.com/from-ben-steampunkn-collection-exhibition.
In his glowing “Black Velvet” series, Ben crafts creatures and contraptions that feel simultaneously prehistoric and futuristic, humorous and haunting. With works like “Large Mouth” and “Steel Head”, fish shimmer with intricate lattices of gearwork, snared in the moment between mechanical evolution and aquatic legend. “Once Upon a Blue Loon” and “In the Swamp Again!” echo a playful reverence for nature—one filtered through brass reeds, dragonfly wings fashioned from bullet casings, and otherworldly lighting that makes the scenes pulse with life.
Then, the narrative veers into the utterly surreal. The delightfully punning “Tea-Rex” finds a snarling skull bursting from a teacup beside an ominous kettle, while the “Saw Gun MkII”—a weaponized vision of post-industrial rebellion—stands like a relic of a cosmic war we somehow missed. The glowing red “Dynonite Lamps” and the eclectic “Dyno-Lite” are less lighting fixtures than alien artifacts, humming with unknown energy. And in “Piezo-Electric Card-A-Gain Printer”, a green-lit device adorned with golden arachnids evokes both vintage sci-fi and mad-scientist charm.
Every sculpture is not just lit but alive. Ben’s unique style—equal parts steampunk, sci-fi satire, and off-planet performance art—breathes with humor, meticulous craftsmanship, and a relentless imagination. His narrative biography, half epic tale and half interstellar joke, cleverly blurs the line between artist and character, origin story and performance.
At its core, this collection is an invitation to escape—to laugh, to wonder, and to remember that art, like Ben Steampunk’n himself, is sometimes best understood when it doesn’t take itself too seriously. So plug in, power up, and prepare to orbit the creative cosmos of one of the quirkiest minds in art today.
Artist:
Ben Steampunk'n was birthed somewhere off-planet, the exact location of which is not known, although many think it was on Uranus. He attended Nordhouse Tech Primary School - Earthside Campus, where he was at the top of his class in Mecha Physical Theory. This earned him his Master's Degree in Bionic Synthosis at a very young age. His Mastery of B.S. got him accepted at the Watts-Amatta University, on Uranus, where he obtained his M.T. (Masters Terminus) degree in Circology, the highest degree attainable in that field. He was awarded by the Board of Regents of the "College of Fantastic Accomplishments" for having the shortest M.T. Thesis in the 625-year history of the school, stating that although it was only five words long, it perfectly incapsulated the true essence of Circology..."What comes around, goes around!".
After being asked to leave Watts-Amatta U., amid allegations he was the only "folder" in a school full of "scrunchers", Ben, undaunted, joined the Planetary Protection Services to help put down the Cutler Rebellion that claimed so many lives. The introduction, after years of development, of Ben's Saw Gun MkII, and the release of his Air-Cooled Ionic Psyche Recalibrator a few years later, turned the tide in that conflict and put Ben Steampunk'n's name in the history books.
Kept planet-side by the Covid outbreak in 2020, Ben Steampunk'n put all his energy and engineering expertise into the creation of his "Virus Protection Kit", which undoubtedly saved many lives. Once travel restrictions were lifted at the spaceport, Ben shuttled back to his studio, somewhere on the dark side of the moon, where he continues to invent and create marvellous wonders he then sends back to earth for our enjoyment.
