Vito LoRusso, Leigh Salgado, & Llyn Foulkes

Coagula Curatorial is pleased to announce TWO exciting art exhibitions opening at our space on October 27, 2012.

In our main space is an exhibit of new work by two emerging Los Angeles Artists, Vito LoRusso and Leigh Salgado.

Vito LoRusso constructs sculpted wall pictures that reflect the frenetic beauty in the chaos of our times. Working in the mediums of painting, sculpture and assemblage all at once, LoRusso has crafted a visual vocabulary that privileges the appearance of raw expression but frozen so perfectly in its appearance that the artist must also be considered a precision engineer of functionless form.

Leigh Salgado is a pioneer of free-form cut paper picture-making. By abandoning the clichés of craft, pattern and decoration, Salgado has arrived at a raw sensuality in this once cool and precise medium. Her masterful painting and drawing skills resound as they intertwine with the thousands of cuts in the paper surface of her ambitious, large-scale artworks. The results pulsate with a thematic poetry of abstracted and idealized body imagery.

In Coagula’s basement gallery is The Complete Pigment Prints of Llyn Foulkes.

Between 1999 and 2008, legendary Los Angeles artist Llyn Foulkes worked exclusively with Patricia Correia Publishing (PCP) on a series of limited edition archival prints scanned from a selection of some of his greatest original paintings. The exhibition covers a wide breadth of the artist's oeuvre, featuring sixteen individual signed and numbered editions, the original artworks of which will be featured in Llyn's upcoming 2013 career retrospective at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.

This exhibition is in collaboration with Patricia Correia Publishing.

These exhibitions run October 27 thru November 24.

The gallery’s opening reception for these two shows is Saturday, October 27, 8 PM – Midnight and will feature a special performance by DUMFUXX presenting excerpts from their forthcoming film and soundtrack, "Asphalt Serenade".
