In the work of Alessia Podgorica, the human figure emerges as presence and inquiry. Her compositions unfold between intimacy and estrangement, constructing symbolic environments in which bodies, landscapes, and fragments of objects interact in unexpected ways. These works open a space of interpretation where meaning remains fluid and unresolved.
Within this framework, the exhibition proposes a dream anatomy as an exploration of the structures, rhythms, and symbolic logic through which the subconscious takes form.
Working across painting, drawing, printmaking, and digital processes, Podgorica develops a visual language rooted in figuration yet continually destabilized by surreal transformation. Portraits dissolve into hybrid forms, bodies merge with organic structures, and familiar element like fruits, animals, landscapes, celestial symbol that appear within dreamlike constellations.
At the core of her practice lies the human figure, often isolated within enigmatic symbolic surroundings. The body appears vulnerable, fragmented, or in a state of metamorphosis, evoking conditions of introspection and emotional exposure. These figures inhabit spaces suspended between inner psychological landscapes and external reality.
While her work resonates with the legacy of surrealism, it does so not as stylistic quotation but as a conceptual orientation. Podgorica approaches the image as a site through which the hidden layers of thought and emotion can surface. Drawing from art history, music, philosophy, and psychology, her practice embraces the dissolution of rational logic in favor of intuitive and symbolic association.
These compositions remain deliberately open-ended. Symbols are present but not fixed; narratives emerge but never fully resolve. Podgorica’s works function as psychological landscapes, where fragments of experience meet imagination.
The result of this process is a body of work that moves between the intimate and the universal, inviting the viewer to navigate a shifting terrain of identity and the subconscious.
