“Dichotomy: Abstracted Science and Lyrical Landscapes”

“Dichotomy: Abstracted Science and Lyrical Landscapes” is an exhibit of mixed media and watercolor paintings by artists Nance Wheeler and Patricia Nojima.  The exhibition will be held at Gallery House 320 S. California Ave., Palo Alto, CA from August 25th to September 19th, 2015.  A reception for the artists will take place on Friday, August 28th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The public is invited.

Artists Nance Wheeler and Patricia Nojima represent two opposing aspects of Silicon Valley and the world in microcosm.  Nance Wheeler delves into the scientific aspects of the increasingly omnipresent technology.  While in counterpoint, Patricia Nojima focuses on the natural rural aspects of the Santa Clara Valley and the world beyond.

Nance Wheeler embraces the practice of science as both contemplative and philosophical.   In her mixed-media paintings, Nance represents some of the scientific questions from the past and present, which are nearly as theological as they are practical.

Patricia Nojima sees the rural side of the valley and of the world.  She paints the landscapes she sees, but that only she sees.  Her scenes are recognizable places but much more as she captures the lyrical side of nature.

This exhibit strongly and colorfully demonstrates the opposing pull of science and nature, taking both the left and right brain out for a spin.

Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m, holidays excepted.  The gallery telephone is (650-326-1668).
