This October to coincide with Frieze, The Dot Project is pleased to present its first solo exhibition, 'What is your reason for visiting?' featuring work by Los Angeles based artist, Alex Gardner.

Gardner obtained a BFA in Fine Art from CSULB University in Long Beach, California and currently lives in LA. Gardner’s African Japanese heritage is heavily integrated in the influences which create his mixed medium large scale canvases. He creates expressive yet figurative work with large sweeping movements and ambiguous narratives. Placing his figures onto minimal geometric landscapes Alex draws on influence from Renaissance painters in a way to purposefully guide the eye through composition of the human form. The anonymity of the figures allow viewers to project themselves into the narrative whilst also depicting issues of identity.

The Dot Project will be showcasing 26 of Alex Gardner works in a mix of painting and drawings. A private view will be held with the artist present on Tuesday 6th October from 6 – 9pm.

To accompany the exhibition a critical essay has been written by independent curator, Osei Bonsu. His writing has been included in a number of museum and exhibition catalogues, including the 56th Venice Biennial Exhibition and Milan EXPO "Arts and Food" at La Triennale di Milano. He is the Founding Director of CRANE, and has developed a number of projects focused on international art, including "Pangea II: New Art from Africa and Latin America" (Saatchi Gallery 2015).

The Dot Project is proud to be partnering up with Ruinart champagne for the evening.
