Ali, Oil on Canvas, 128 x 153cm

Katie Buckett specialises in hyper-real large-scale paintings. Originally from Ohio, Katie trained at the prestigious Pratt Institute in New York and played an important part in the growth of the Bushwick Arts scene after founding ‘Hospitium Collective’ – an artists owned and run gallery that nurtured emerging artists in the creative hub of Bushwick, New York.

Katie Buckett hyper-real paintings are based on photographic references taken by the artist herself. She captures the light and forms of her source materials before adding hyper realistic, partially heightened detail. Her works are both figurative and surreal in the way she juxtaposes ordinary and bazaar objects, causing the viewer to let of of reality and explore their own personal myths and associations.

“I do this because I want the viewer to relax and let their unconscious take then wherever they want.  I am merely providing a window using what the universal language of perceived reality using our eyes: form obeying light.  There is no larger message, no political stance. I aim to make people happy and explore their own minds” – Katie Buckett
