Sims Reed Gallery is delighted to present ‘Bruce Nauman Prints 1970 – 2006’ in collaboration with Galerie Ronny Van de Velde. The exhibition will include around 30 prints and will run from 24 June – 17 July 2015 at The Economist Building, 30 Bury Street, London SW1.

Nauman, born 1941, began printmaking in 1970 with a series of five screenprints called Studies for Holograms. These are effectively static ‘moments-from-a-video’ pieces, in which he used his own body, transforming his physical self into the medium out of which he makes his art. A full set of these is included in the show.

This initial foray instigated an intensive ten-year period of keen printmaking, especially in the early 1970s, when Nauman lived in Southern California and worked actively with legendary printer/publisher Gemini G.E.L. This show includes several of the most important pieces from this period and carries on with prints he made later after his move to New Mexico in the 1980s, through to some of his most recent prints.

Nauman’s work investigates the nature of language and the human body, and most of his art is performance based. Throughout his career he has used printmaking as a way to further investigate these themes and also create art with a more tangible character then the elusive performance art piece. Nauman stopped painting in 1965, so his prints are the only two-dimensional art on the market. Prices will range from £10,000 to £100,000.
